City Credit Union

Dollars & Sense Tip of the Week

by Sharon Moore, President

You’ve heard me talk about knowing your credit score many times before. If you’ve recently received a copy of your credit report and would like to improve your credit score, here are some steps to take.

1) Ensure your credit report is accurate and dispute any errors
2) Bring delinquent loans current
3) Keep all accounts current while paying off any collections
4) Pay down credit cards first that are near their limits
5) Pay down revolving credit but do not close out the account because it will negatively affect your credit score

Don’t be discouraged. Follow these steps and you’ll be well on your way to improving your credit score! If you need additional help, call us at 214 515 0100.

Looking for a new home? Rates are still low, so it’s a good time to buy but there are some things you should consider before taking the plunge.

First, KNOW YOUR CREDIT SCORE! You could have a great down payment and low debt to income ratio, but if your credit score is too low you won’t qualify for a loan.

Next, evaluate if you’re really ready to be a homeowner. Buying a home should be looked upon as a long-term investment. Also, it’s important to consider the upkeep and maintenance costs associated with buying a home.

Home ownership is the American Dream. Take some time to plan before you buy so that you can be a smart consumer. Linda Mitchell, Home Zone expert at City Credit Union is ready and willing to help. Call her at 214 515 0100 for more information, or visit us at city c u dot org.

Dollars & Sense Tip of the Week

by Sharon Moore, President

Summer time is great...no school, vacations, longer days. But it’s also prime time for scammers to take advantage of you. Don’t be a victim! Follow these simple steps to avoid being scammed:

Never, ever give out any personal information to an automated or live call. Remember that financial institutions already have your personal information…we would never call you to request this type of information.

Copy down the number from your caller ID and the date and time of the call and forward the information to your financial institution.

If you make the mistake of giving personal information to a scammer, contact your financial institution immediately, close the accounts and cards and reopen with new numbers, and order a copy of your credit report.

Don’t let a scammer ruin your summer fun! Never give out your personal information unless it’s a call that you’ve initiated.
